8-week-old puppy won't sleep through the night - how long does this actually last?

we brought home our golden mix puppy Biscuit nine days ago and i am so tired i can barely type. he goes down in his crate okay around 10:30 but then wakes up at 2am and 4am like clockwork. i take him outside, he does his business, goes back in the crate, and falls asleep. but then i'm lying there wide awake for another hour each time.

i knew puppies were a lot of work but i don't think i fully understood what "no sleep for weeks" actually felt like in practice. is this normal for 8 weeks? does it get better at 10 weeks, 12 weeks? is there anything i can do to help him stretch those stretches or do i just have to wait it out?

i love him so much but i have to be honest, i googled "how long does puppy sleep phase last" at 4:15am and was not prepared for some of the answers i saw
