How do you find a GOOD dog trainer?

Theres like 50 trainers in my area and they all claim to be the best. Some use e-collars, some are purely positive, some are "balanced." I have no idea how to choose.

What should I look for? Red flags to avoid? My pup is 6 months old and needs basic obedience help.
