Just adopted a 3-year-old pit mix and she is PERFECT - month update

I told myself I wasn't going to be one of those people who posts about their rescue every five minutes but here I am. We adopted Pepper about a month ago from the county shelter where she'd been sitting for almost eight months. Staff said she was "shy with strangers" which I now know means she was completely shut down and terrified when we first met her.

The first two weeks were really rough honestly. She wouldn't eat unless we left the room, she slept with her back against the wall watching the door. I'd read about the 3-3-3 rule but actually living it is different. My partner kept asking if we made a mistake. We didn't.

Week three something shifted. She started following me to the kitchen. Week four she's sleeping on the couch pressed against my legs and greeted my neighbor with a tail wag yesterday. I literally teared up. I know this is just the beginning but man, watching a dog come out of their shell is one of the most rewarding things I've ever experienced.
