My 2-year-old golden keeps stealing socks - is this a phase or a forever thing?

okay so Marigold is 2 years old now and still has this obsession with stealing socks. like we're talking she has a sixth sense for when someone takes their shoes off. she doesn't chew them, just carries them around the house like little trophies and looks SO proud of herself.

we've tried keeping laundry baskets closed and putting socks away immediately but she finds them anyway. my partner found three socks under the couch cushions last week. we've been blaming each other for leaving socks out for months apparently.

she gets plenty of exercise - two 30 min walks a day plus fetch in the backyard. is this just a golden thing? does it ever stop? or do i have to accept that we now live in a house where socks are contraband lol
