My golden keeps stealing food off the counter - is this a golden thing or just my dog?

Okay so my golden Biscuit turned 2 last month and he has become the most determined counter surfer i have ever seen. i thought he'd grow out of it but nope, somehow he's gotten WORSE. last week he got an entire loaf of bread and just demolished it. not even a crumb left.

my friend has a lab and says her dog never does this, but another friend with a golden says hers does the same thing. so now im wondering if its a breed thing or if ive just failed at training lol. we did puppy classes and everything but counter surfing was never really covered.

anyone else dealing with this? what finally worked for you? i've tried the whole "booby trap" thing with empty cans but he just knocks them off and keeps going. he's not scared of anything.
