Six months with our rescue and she finally chose me today - needed to share this somewhere
Luna came to us from a rescue in February. she had been in the shelter for almost five months after being found as a stray, and her intake notes said she was "shy with people, does not seek attention, may take time to warm up." that was an understatement.
for the first three months she basically moved around the house like a ghost. she would eat, use the yard, sleep in her crate - all fine. but she didn't really engage with us. if i sat near her she'd get up and move to another spot. not scared exactly, more like... indifferent. i kept wondering if we'd done something wrong or if she was just going to be this way forever.
today i was sitting on the floor reading and she walked over, lay down against my leg, and then brought me her tennis ball and dropped it in my lap. she wanted to play. i almost cried. we played fetch in the hallway for 20 minutes and then she fell asleep on my feet. six months of just showing up every day and she finally decided i was worth knowing. it feels like the best thing that's happened to me in a long time.
