Vet bills are genuinely out of control

I am so frustrated. My dog ate something weird at the park and has had diarrhea for 3 days. Took her to the vet thinking it would be a basic visit.

$450. Four hundred and fifty dollars. For an exam, some anti-nausea meds, and a recommendation to "monitor at home." No bloodwork, no xrays, nothing fancy. Just a quick look and some pills.

I have insurance but my deductible is $500 so this doesn't even count. When did basic vet care get this expensive? I feel like every vet visit is a financial crisis now.

Love my dog more than anything but man. This is unsustainable.
