Whats the deal with grain free food? Safe or not?

I keep seeing conflicting info. Some people swear by grain free, others say its linked to heart disease. My vet said to avoid grain free but then I see tons of people feeding it with no issues.

My dachshund seems to do fine on his current grain inclusive food but im curious what the actual consensus is at this point.
